MR01. Entrelaçando os cupins em atividades de divulgação científica e extensão universitária
O baixo consumo de ciência pela população brasileira é histórico. A falta de desejo e incapacidade dos cientistas em desenvolver atividades e produtos de divulgação científica e extensão voltados ao público em geral, acaba agravando este cenário. A atual avalanche de “fake news” evidenciou o quanto precisamos do pensamento científico e senso crítico em nosso cotidiano para discernirmos o caminho a seguir, como indivíduos e sociedade. Nesse sentido, é responsabilidade dos cientistas e de suas instituições transformar o conhecimento gerado em seus laboratórios em algo “palatável” e acessível. Diante disso, as atividades de extensão e de divulgação científica, utilizando as redes sociais ou indo além dos muros das Universidades, em atividades presenciais, representam poderosas ferramentas de interações e popularização do conhecimento científico. Diversos grupos de pesquisa utilizam esses canais a fim de divulgar seus projetos, equipe, resultados de pesquisa, etc. O objetivo da mesa-redonda é compartilhar as experiências de extensão universitária e de divulgação científica em mídias sociais envolvendo os cupins, apresentando as estratégias, resultados, oportunidades e dificuldades encontradas em uma sociedade que não aprendeu a “degustar” o conhecimento científico em seu cotidiano.

MR02. The revolution in Apicotermitinae taxonomy over the past 15 years and prospects for the next 15
The genus Anoplotermes was described in 1873 by Fritz Müller, and when Apicotermitinae was established in 1955 by Grassé & Noirot, this was the only genus in the subfamily for the New World. In the 1970s and 1980s, the genera Grigiotermes, Ruptitermes, Aparatermes, and Tetimatermes were described, and the taxonomic situation of the group remained unchanged for the next 30 years. However, in the last 15 years, several research groups worldwide, independently or in collaboration, have described 17 new genera, redescribed the genera Anoplotermes and Grigiotermes, and revised Ruptitermes. Currently, the subfamily comprises 64 species, but there is still much to be done to elucidate this group, which is the greatest taxonomic challenge in Isoptera. Therefore, this roundtable will discuss the current panorama of the group's taxonomy and prospects for the future. In this context, a comprehensive proposal of molecular phylogeny will be presented and discussed, containing over 700 terminals of Neotropical Apicotermitinae, including many as-yet-undescribed taxa. The case of a probable new genus that includes a widely distributed clade in Central America and the southern Nearctic region will also be presented, which, although well-defined by morphological and genetic characters, presents a complex of species with extensive character overlap and intriguing biogeography. Finally, we will also share the findings of a study conducted across 186 locations in the Colombian Amazon, which yielded 4,205 records and identified 225 termite species. Notably, 25% of these records and 69 of the identified species belong to the Apicotermitinae subfamily, with a significant 47.5% of these species remaining undescribed. In summary, this roundtable will offer an opportunity to discuss the current state of knowledge of Neotropical Apicotermitinae and outline prospects for the future as we advance in understanding the taxonomy, biology, ecology, and evolution of the group.
